Over the past 18 months, the securities industry has had to react quickly to a global pandemic, lockdowns, the Brexit drama, and major global policy shifts. The domino effect of these crises has caused periods of intense market volatility. One of the common through-lines for firms has been the basic truth that manual systems have held them back or fallen apart when the Ops team was not onsite to facilitate execution. Yet, these crises are laying the groundwork for manual processes to go away for good. For instance, having Ops and other behind-the-scenes staffs work remotely caused firms to rethink the reach of cloud computing, enterprise-wide applications, cutting-edge advances, and other areas of automation. This was particularly true for tasks that have been manual for too long or have key steps that are manual such signatures on documents. Given the new realities, firms are speeding up their digital transformation plans. This panel will cover the replacement of manual loops and bottlenecks, IT innovations that help firms out of tight spots, and jumpstarting change management strategies.
